Unfortunately, the Caribbean past is not a sleeping beauty waiting to be revived by the adventurous or inquisitive intellectual. To the contrary, the region has a very brutal and distasteful past and Cambeira’s works concentrate on some of those more disturbing issues, not just of that past, but also of the poignant relation between the Caribbean past and the present , reminding us of the genuine responsibility of our writers. In a region so often subject to mystification, the honest role of the writer is to disentangle myth from what actually took place. May the creative resonances continue!

Las obras de esta colección de Alan Cambeira merecen un interés especial porque enfocan sobre las realidades ocultas de la región. Lamentablemente, el pasado caribeño no es ninguna belleza durmiente anticipando ser resucitada por el intelectual o por el audaz o curioso. Muy al contrario, la región tiene un pasado muy brutal y disagradable y estas obras de Cambeira se concentran en algunas de aquellas cuestiones más inquietantes no simplemente de ese pasado --- sino también de la intensa relación entre el pasado y el presente caribeño que nos hace recordar la genuína responsabilidad de nuestros escritores/as. En una región tan sometida a la mistificación, el rol honesto del escritor/a es el de poner en claro el mito de lo que ocurrió de verdad. ¡Ojalá que continúen estas creativas resonancias!
